Our vineyard was established at the end of the 1980s, by the family patriarch, Tamas Gere, who recognised the opportunity - and after learning all the secrets of winemaking - decided to grow grapes.
Tamas, as a member of the Villanyi Fives, was one of the first to produce wine for retail channels which helped to establish the current reputation of Villany. In an accident during the 1998 harvest, Tamas lost his footing and fell in a container which resulted in him breaking his leg. Tamas’s son, Zsolt, had just started his last year at the Budafok Viniculture Winemaker’s Institute, when the family called him to return home to help. Although young, Zsolt met this first challenge with a huge determination, and to great success. Since then, many nice product lines adorn his name. Thanks to his long journey in winemaking combined with monitoring the market, today Zsolt makes his wines in his own uniquely recognisable style. Next to elegance and detailed richness, dynamism and youth also plays an important role when creating his wine.
Zsolt’s sister, Viktoria has a degree in Tourism, and she is the director of the local wine house and the Inn, in Villany.
Marta, Tamas’s wife is also actively participating in the family business. She coordinates all activities in the back office and looks out for the younger members of the family and wider team.
